Andrew's name was shown on his birth certificate as "Andrew Joseph" but · he was known by family and friends as "Andrew Jacob". (Source: A.J. Wendel, 1986.)
Andrew developed· a business consisting of farming, hardware and implement dealership, highway construction, and cotton ginning in Wharton County. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The road construction business was started in the 1930's. Andrew's son A. J. worked the construction business when he finished at Texas A & M University. His grandson Andy started in the business when he finished at T.S.T.I. in 1973.
Because of his Catholicism, Andrew was once run out of town {Choate, Karnes, Texas, USA} by the Ku Klux Klan. At the time, school children were taunted by other children because of religion and heritage. (Source· Virgie {Rioux} Johnson, 1986, and Susan {Wendel} Waters, 1986)
